Project Charter
Choose a project involving an IT requirement with multiple tasks and human resources. This project must come from a business situation–for example, hardware procurement and installation, network acquisition, implementation, or expansion–in which each Learning Team member contributes background details.
This is a consolidated source of information which lays the foundation for successful completion of any project by identifying your project vision and communicating the overall approach for a project to all key stakeholder audiences.
At a minimum the charter will contain the following:
- Background of the organization and any information or statement of needs that helps explain how the project came to be
- Goals and objectives of the project in language that is both concise and explanatory
- Project scope delineated so that all parties involved are aware of what the project includes as well as what it does not
- Budgetary limitations
- Explanation of sponsors, stakeholders, and as well as how the project team is structured so that there will be no confusion concerning roles and responsibilities
- Project approach your team intends to take to fulfill meeting deliverables of the project

Chosen a project
We could do a health care company expanding from one building to one next door, so that it is one giant building instead of two buildings in the same complex. The project could be to ensure that the network containing all health and customer information is secure and available to both sides of the new building.
Since it would be doubling in size, the network would need to be upgraded and have the speed increased. There would need to have consultants be hired to survey the existing internet wiring. We would need to purchase new equipment and wiring, because we might as well upgrade existing infrastructure anyway.
We would need to test the new equipment and make sure the employees are able to properly work on it. We can also set up ongoing training for the employees to make sure that they stay up to date on the technology.
We can also have the IT people monitor the network and set up procedures such as backing up patient information, daily monitoring of traffic, monitoring error handling, and security protection.
Then, we could evaluate the project as a final step, ensuring that everything is running smoothly.
We can monitor cost, resources, time, and quality of the network.
