Park University Continuity Operations in Public and Private Sectors
Park University Continuity Operations in Public and Private Sectors
Fink Discussion 1:
In Chapter 9 (p. 304), Fink discusses many possible reasons why so many people had died at Memorial and why the hospital was not able to function. Critically analyze these reasons. Provide suggestions on how these causes could be addressed in future disasters. Use examples from either the Fink book or from experiences in your own organization or life.
Fink Discussion 2:
Discuss how Tenet managed the continuity of operations for Memorial. How did Tenet plan to get the hospital functioning again? What was the impact on the employees? Apply the lessons learned from Tenet concerning the ongoing hospital operations and human resources elements to either Memorial or to another organization with which you are familiar.
Wallace Discussion 1:
In planning for recovery, an organization can pre-plan for recovery, outsource for recovery, or wait until a disaster to figure out what to do and where to go. The best COOP and BCP are plans that consider recovery strategies prior to a disaster. What considerations must be made when addressing recovery for significant areas in an organization, such as for IT, work areas, logistics of continuing operations, and customer service? What differences might be experienced in a disaster which is short-term (power failure) versus long-term (pandemic)?
Wallace Discussion 2:
Consider the recommendations for an interim plan. Discuss the 11 items the authors recommend for an interim plan. How would these elements be used in an interim plan in an organization with which you are familiar? Where would this plan be kept? Who would be responsible for maintaining this plan until the full BCP or COOP is created and approved? How would you verify that this interim plan is adequate and appropriate?
