SQL or Structured Query Language is the language used for relational database manipulation. It is a very powerful tool because it is good for creating and managing large databases, which most tech corporations utilize. SQL uses English statements, making it easy to use. SQL also is able to run on many different platforms such as servers, computers, or tablets (Why SQL…, 2011).

Why is a Join in SQL so powerful? What does it do and how does it work.

The SQL JOIN command is very powerful because it allows the user to link multiple tables together. This allows the user to see things like customer information for customers who made a specific order. The JOIN command will show the order information plus the customer information. In order for tables to be joined they must have at least one row that contains identical data (Pratt, 2012). An example would be:

SELECT CustomerName, CustomerInfo, OrderNum, OrderInfo

FROM Customer, Orders

WHERE Customer.OrderNum=Orders.OrderNum

Each table contains the OrderNum and thus can be linked (Pratt, 2012).

Query-By-Example is popular because it is also a query tool that allows manipulation of much smaller databases than SQL. It also uses a visual layout, instead of commands. The interface is a lot more user friendly. For example, in Access, to create a query, all a user has to do is click on the query window. All a user has to do is fill in some templates in the design grid. All the attributes and names are visible during the query creation. It is very easy to run queries that are not complex. Based on what I have learned about SQL and having used Microsoft Access, I think that QBE software is a lot easier to use. QBE is a more applicable piece of software when dealing with smaller databases. If the database a user is manipulating is very large, then SQL should be used (Pratt, 2012).

SQL stands for Structured Query Language. SQL is used as the primary language used to manage large SQL databases for companies. SQL is a robust language that allows its users to easily make changes, delete items, or search for items without the need to navigate through tons of files and folders. The Query use is one of the best features when it comes to a database and being able to easily search what you are trying to find in a hurry. I have seen where some actually do not consider SQL as being a language due to missing some of the fundamentals. The world of coding seems to be really snobby about what a language is and is not.

Join in SQL is so powerful because it allows you to take data across multiple sources and compare it to make changes with little effort on your end. It allows you to do this by initiating a query and generating a report based upon the information that you specified in the query. Query By Example is popular because it is generally easier to use QBE than it is to use SQL for the same function. Query by example is much easier and you do not have to know what your looking for to get results sort of like any modern day internet browser. You could type in dog in the search engine of your choice and it will bring up multiple listings of dog. This is how it works when QBE is in the database environment.
