One of the main issues of my organization faces in addressing an evidence-based problem is engaging nurses in taking steps to modify their techniques to more evidence-based practices. Education and behavior are a huge part of the reasons why it is hard for nursing leaders to overcome the resistance or lack of engagement (Ginex, 2018). Nurses in the system that were educated 20 years ago did not learn about evidence-based practice. It is also equally important for nursing leaders to realize that a one or two days of class will not cause permanent change. To change the behavior of these individuals, it will take time and consistency. I personally feel that nurses should be provided access to a rich library, up to date journals and EBP mentorship programs. EBP has been proven to improve patient care and outcomes. Innovative approaches are needed to overcome individual and organizational barriers to EBP. Once evidence-based practice has been implemented, the last step is to evaluate the outcomes and results. The lack of time could be barrier to implementing, Resistance is always a barrier, some nurses don’t or want to adapt to change, to change one’s culture can be challenging. To over come these strategies stakeholders and administration support is needed (Ginex, 2018). They play a key role in developing an organizational culture that supports EBP.
