CLASSMATE POST 1:
Copyright is when an individual has rights that are protected by law with whatever they have said or quoted on their own. It’s just like when you are getting together a paper or essay, and you word something to your credibility; you can copyright that and protect that so that nobody else can trademark that saying or quote. There are plenty of precautions that we need to be aware of so that we do not violate anybody’s rights either. There are many reasons why you can be in violation one is taking a copy of a picture or logo and using it without the companies permission to be advertised, without the companies approval you can easily be sued. When it comes to public domain its when there is NO ownership to the quote or remark that was made. When that is done anybody can use it or quote it without permission from the originator. When faced with fair use it can become tricky if not used or approached correctly, it can go south really quick. Two things qualify as fair use which is criticism and parody. Criticism usually doesn’t sit well with some people, but it is one way to get away with quoting what somebody just said. Parody is when you can openly imitate something without being entirely direct. This usually works all of the time because then there is not much one can do about the situation if their perspective is evident. An example of fair use is when a comedian for example Katt Williams gets on stage and makes jokes openly about his relatives or friends like Shaq or Kobe he never fully tells the entire story word for word, instead imitates it and jokes about it. This can save him from getting too deep into the subject and commenting on something he shouldn’t so he laughs about his perspective which works for everyone. There are plenty of ways to say the things that need to be approached without getting into trouble.
CLASSMATE POST 2:
1. Copyright is a legal act that most companies and government use. It also gives the creator of an original work exclusive rights to it. Public domain is when anyone can use your work without being charged. Fair use is a limitation and exception to the exclusive right granted by copyright law to the author of a creative work. For example The quotation of short passages from a novel in a negative newspaper review of that novel is generally considered a fair use. When Universal makes a movie it its there right by copy right to say that no one else is allowed to copy them and use their ideas. Only the writer and creator can reuse their work if the want to. So it would be a violation of copy right for someone to use their ideas or redo a movie or theirs on anyway. If you violate the copy right law you are looking at Fines up to 30,000 and possible jail time. Fair use and copy right to me sound the same there is just more factors that come into play when you are trying to prove someone violated you in regards to fair use and copy right.
CLASSMATE POST 3:
The current search engine I use is Google. I enjoy Google because I can look up anything and get an answer right away. I do see limitation when it comes to the information I receive for whatever I am looking up. I sometimes get multiple answers for one question. Sometimes they are similar answers but sometimes they are not even close. So it makes me wonder what he right answer is and I have to do more research then I wanted to. The internet is full of so much information that all the search engines such as Google, Yahoo, an Bing you cant go wrong using any of them. I think it just depends on your priority and what one you feel more comfortable using. The danger is there is so much information on the web you can find almost anything you want. Even personal information on people. I think this scary and cause crazy people to stalk and bother people that do not even know this is happening. Not all information is accurate. there are sites on the internet such as craigslist were people sell stuff but only do it to attract people then hurt them I find this scary. Also people who prey on children and use the internet for thing such as child porn. There are a lot of good things about the web but there are a lot of bad and scary things about the web too.
CLASSMATE POST 4:
There are plenty of benefits that come along with using search engines just like Google, Bing, Ask, and Yahoo. Using these sources can become very helpful to information and time management. You can also find just about any information you need online from song lyrics, recipes, photos and articles; the good thing is you can use the internet anywhere whether it be at your local library or the comfort of your home. The internet offers a wide variety of options for a range of ages. It has opened up a whole new world for us in today’s society; we can communicate online, pay bills, Schedule appointments, and even order food. It has created a fast way to stay in touch with loved ones and stay connected with the world around us. Although it sounds like its all fun and games, there can be a ton of cons that come with service of the internet and search engines. Some limitations that accompany the internet is viruses; this is bad because it gives the hacker the ability to steal all your personal information. Hackers can ruin all your data, steal your identity, or sabotage your career all at once. Another concern is getting a hold of the wrong information; some websites like to twist some things here and there, which can cause you to have bad information. It can also lead to a site that is trying to commit fraud by stealing your personal information, which later can cause you debt and a bunch of frustration. Another concern is content that can be inappropriate, sometimes pop-ups, or ads can display things that are not good for a child to see which makes it dangerous. There are ways to control this, but even sometimes it doesn’t work. In today’s age a lot of people like to be stuck on their phones, just like when they are out eating or with their kids at the park, this becomes a distraction and causes you to focus less on what the matter of the point is. Sometimes we are all guilty of staying on Instagram or Facebook while at the dinner table, but also not realizing it deteriorates your relationships with your loved ones due to lack of communication which can be fatal to your household. Although we don’t pay attention to some things as much as we do others, it is only right that we all take proper precautions to protect ourselves and our loved ones. Access to the internet is incredible, but it comes with its downfalls just like anything else in life.
