Quality of Service Requirements

Quality of Service Requirements

Multi-Layer Switching

Task 1. Submit a work proposal having the following things:

Task 1.a: Understanding of deliverables ñ a detail description of deliverables.

Task 1.b: General overview of proposed plan – initial understanding of solution to task2 and task 3.

Task 1.c: Resources identified.

Task 2. (write a report on Quality Of Service requirements in a LAN)

Task 2.a: Select a published paper (preferably from the ACM DL or IEEE CSDL) that is discussing The Quality Of Service (QOS) requirements in a LAN. Summarize this paper in

one to three pages. The summary should include the main ideas presented in the paper with appropriate justification.

Task 2.b: Interpret and analyse the QOS requirements discussed by the research paper in your own words.

Task 3.Read carefully the following Case Study and answer the given questions:

ìA network engineer has been given the mission of designing a network for a healthcare clinic using cisco solutions. The total number of employees is about 150. The company has 5 servers, 10 network printers a workstation or laptop for every employee. All employees need to access to internet. There will be 3 separate Vlans: ìmedical staffî, ìadministrative staffî and ìpatientsî. The Vlans support each up to 62 users. The company has two buildings which are 20 m apart. The company is aiming to expand and will add more users to its network.î

Design requirements:

The engineer must make sure of:

– Redundancy of the links and High availability of the Gateway

– Efficiently connecting the users with the resources they need, regardless of location

– Securing the access to the network

– Using Cost effective solutionsî

you are required to design a logical network design for the company based on the collapsed layer Cisco model.

you are required to:

Task 3.a: Select the type and number of the necessary Layer 2 and Multi-layer switches with a clear explanation.

Task 3.b: Mention the Vlan distribution on the access layer switch ports. The answer must include the number of ports assigned to each VLAN on each port with a justification. (you are not concerned with the ip addressing scheme in this question.)

Task 3.c: Apply redundancy of links and Gateway. Describe clearly the protocols that will be used to avoid redundant link issues and to provide the redundancy of the Gateway and the Load balancing.

Task 3.d: On a Distribution Layer switch, create the SVIs for VLANs ìMedical Staffî and ìAdministratorî and ìPatientsî using an IP addressing scheme that verifies the requirements. Further, configure HSRP with preemption on all three networks. Configure the switch with a priority of 150 for VLAN ìMedical Staffî and ìAdministrator.

Task 3.e: Configure an EtherChannel with Cisco PAgP that aggregates ports Fa0/1 and Fa0/2 between one Distribution layer switch and another.

Task 3.f: Predict at least 3 types of attacks to which this network may be exposed. Justify your answer and describe the mitigation techniques associated (for each attack).

Task 3.g: With a proper CAD (Computer-Aided Design) tool, create the complete Logical Network Design that verifies the previous points and including the Server Farm.
