Story: Designing Conceptual, Logical, and Physical Design Based on the Requirements
Currently at Sky Products, the customer service, sales, marketing, and billing departments each have their own data marts used to track customers. They have no idea what customers in each other’s departments are doing. They have no standard customer record format for all departments, making it hard to match customer records in each of the departments. The creation of a data warehouse would give them the ability to track customer behavior from initial contact to sales and billing as well as help provide ideal customer service and identify other products to cross market their customer.
Moral of the Story
Without a data warehouse, there are no standardized data stored in one place for all departments to query information needed for better decision making based on accurate information. Customer data existing in silos by customer service, marketing, and sales and billing departments will not enable the organization to cross-market to customers, be aware of customer loyalty to offer special discounts, or know when they are about to lose a primary customer who uses several of the company’s products and services.
