IT Strategy Discussion Board Response
IT Strategy Discussion Board Response
I’ve provided 2 discussions below that need to be responded separately. The following is this week’s discussion: ‘IT enhancements are often run as a series of small projects. Businesses generally want more enhancements than is affordable. Based on economic and technical feasibility considerations, and frameworks like the Balanced Scorecard, describe a process for deciding how you would plan to keep systems and the skills of your staff up to date’.
1-)In efforts to keep systems and the skills of my staff up to date, I would ensure that my IT department conduct different software updates to make sure our systems are always updated. Most systems will have an automatic update feature installed, so monitoring wouldn’t be a foreign issue. To make sure that systems aren’t filled with junk and causing systems to run slow, I would make sure that there are also routine maintenance checks done on all systems. In my current place of employment, we are instructed to save our documents or not enter certain programs during a certain time because system maintenance will be ran around a certain time. This allows each system to function at the best of its ability and potential.
The skills of all staff would be sharpened by conducting quarterly modules. These modules would simply be a refresher of the current skills being used as well as skills that may be utilized in the future. Internally on the company intranet, there would be a designated place for staff to go, pull up the training module and complete it. Upon completion, staff would receive a notification of completion, and management would receive the notification as well. Staff would of course be given a time frame to have this completed. The purpose of this is to ensure that we are all progressing at or around the same time.
2-)Once the project has completed it doesn’t necessarily mean that the project is complete. There are routine maintenance that takes place from time to time. For an example, when the project was created the steps of SDLC Systems Development Life Cycle are put into action. The last step is maintenance this is routine audits to determine accuracy’s. Once there’s a determination of errors that has to be corrected. The staff can receive training to technical maintenance of security will be implemented.
Along with the balanced score, the Key Performance Index (KPI) is something that would be necessary to evaluate the performance of the project. Managing with the use of KPIs includes setting targets and tracking progress against that target. Managing with KPIs often means working to improve leading indicators that will later drive lagging benefits. Leading indicators are necessary of future success.
