1. “Estimating Costs” Please respond to the following:

  • Suppose you were asked to prepare a cost estimate for a project to purchase laptops for all faculty and staff at your college or university. How would you start? How long would it take you to prepare a good estimate? What type of estimate would you prepare, and what approach would you use to develop a cost estimate? Why do you think it’s necessary to understand some of the basic cost terms in project management?

2. “Risk Management” Please respond to the following:

  • This week, we’ve been studying risk management. As a project manager, one of the most important things you’ll have to analyze is risk. Talk about a couple of risks companies can face when undertaking any new project. Specify how you would apply this week’s learning to your thoughts. Comment on your classmate’s postings and see what ideas you can glean from their input as well.

3. “Human Resources” Please respond to the following:

  • Your organization is embarking on a long –term project that will require additional human resources on a contract basis to complete the work of the project. Since the project will span several years, you know one vendor probably cannot supply all the resources you’ll need over the course of the contract.
    • In order to minimize the procurement documents, I want to work with only one vendor throughout the project. Do you think this is a right decision? Why/Why not? Justify your response.
    • Do you think it’s important that a good IT professional have either strong technical skills, or strong people skills? Why?
