Any node in a network can reach all other nodes in the same broadcast domain by sending a Layer 2 broadcast message. Routers and other higher-layer devices separate networks into separate broadcast domains. Routers do not forward Layer 2 broadcast messages. They examine Layer 3 network addresses to determine each packet’s destination. For this discussion, discuss how collision and broadcast domains are related, but different.
