Multiple skills, theories, and methods have been presented in this course. There were some methods that have been beneficial to my career and me and there is one that will be more challenging to develop. Showing appreciation in the workplace was one of my favorite topics. I also enjoyed doing the Everest Stimulation with my team members. The section of showing appreciation in the workplace that was most beneficial to me was tangible gifts.
I have always thought of gifts as heartwarming. This is the reason I love to give gifts, because I know how it feels to receive. In the case of being in the workplace, it feels great to feel appreciated with a small token from the organization or boss. It makes you feel like you are wanted and you are important to the business. In the future as a leader, I plan to implement tangible gifts as an incentive for my employees. This will motivate them be productive in the workplace and feel that they are welcome.
Showing appreciation through physical touch will be more challenging to develop. Showing appreciation in the workplace could mean giving someone a high five, handshake, pat on the back, hug, or even standing close to him or her. This will be more challenging because touch people who I do not have an intimate or close relationship with, tends to make me nervous. I do not like to be touched by people as well because it makes me feel like someone is violating my personal space. I do not like the face that physical touch could lead to sexual harassment being involved.
