By considering the need, nature and the objectives of this study, the TV series ‘strike back’ has been used to point out ways in which the media portrays the Muslim community as terrorists. The research focused on critically analyzing how the characters of the TV series ‘strike back’ are addressed. The TV series has seven seasons, and it is still going on, but the research focused on season one and season two because these two seasons have many terrorist attacks and compelling presentation of the Muslim community as terrorists. The analysis specifically focused on how the Muslim community, most especially Mahmud and other characters portrayed as terrorists are addressed in the TV series.

Presentation

Design, develop, and deliver a presentation, in Pecha Kucha or other presentation style, via ZOOM.

It may be good to prepare a full sentence outline to help plan your final presentation. All entries should be in complete sentences. Include the following four sections in your outline.

  1. Introduction
    • Include title, research question, and relevant theory.
    • Describe the media problem that your research has addressed and why it is important.
    • Describe your research methodology. What media did you examine?
  2. Literature Review
    • Describe the relevant points made by scholars. You need not include all scholars’ work reviewed but only those that link relevant information to your research question.
    • Format all resources examined with complete APA style citation in the bibliography.
  3. Content Analysis Results
    • Present your analysis of the relevant media content examined. These are your findings or research results.
    • Provide details of the media representations of your selected group.
    • Describe what humanizing or dehumanizing characteristics found in the media. You may compare and contrast your findings with those of other scholars’.
    • Describe your ideas for media solution strategies.
  4. Conclusion and Solution Strategies
    • Explain the meaning of your results and propose possible problem solution strategies.
    • Make suggestions for further study, particularly where you found no relevant research.

Pecha Kucha Presentation Style

Pecha Kucha is a presentation style requiring concise and fast-paced delivery. Traditionally, a Pecha Kucha is a 20 slide presentation, with each slide being shown/explained for no more than 20 seconds, totaling 6 minutes and 40 seconds. For our purposes in COMM 205, we will use the following guidelines for our Pecha Kucha.

  • 15 slides in the presentation
  • Maximum of 20 seconds per slide for display/explanation
  • Maximum presentation total time of 5 minutes
  • Delivered and recorded by the Zoom video collaboration system
  • Classmates should keep notes during other presentations to use as guides for providing feedback, if requested.

Presentation Guidelines

  • Communicate all elements of your research included in outline.
  • Can use Text, Still images, Digital Video
  • Structure your presentation to include these sections.
    • Introduction
    • Literature Review and Bibliography
    • Content Analysis Results
    • Conclusions and Solution Strategies
  • Illustrate your results, main points of analysis, conclusions and remaining questions for further research.
  • Propose problem solution strategies for media creators and audiences.
  • Raise issues and questions about research for class members to discuss.

Using Zoom to Present Your Research Project

You can create your research project final presentation in PowerPoint® or other presentation software. When you have completed your presentation and practiced your delivery and it is time for you to present, you should have the presentation open on your desktop, behind the ZOOM interface.

When you are in ZOOM and ready to present, follow these steps.

  1. Click Screen Share in the bottom menu
  2. Select Desktop
  3. Click Share Screen confirmation
  4. Open your presentation on your desktop
  5. Scroll to the top of the screen and a Zoom tool bar will open (There are White Board tools available by scrolling over the top of the screen)
