Epidemiologic methods
Hi Class,
Epidemiologic methods are used to evaluate Healthy People 2020 objectives by provides science-based, 10-year national objectives for improving the health of all Americans. For 3 decades, Healthy People has established benchmarks and monitored progress over time in order to:
· Encourage collaborations across communities and sectors.
· Empower individuals toward making informed health decisions.
· Measure the impact of prevention activities
One example would be vaccination programs and requirements for child care, school and college attendance. The primary goal/purpose of the study is to have vaccination requirements for child care, school, and college attendance to increase vaccination rates and decrease rates of vaccine-preventable disease.
This article used analytic study design because they are hypothesis testing and are used to test the association between exposure and disease. If children are not vaccinated it makes them more susceptible to infections and other diseases.
Analytic Study Desigsn contain Case Control Studies which are designed to sample a group of people with and without the specfic disease. These case control studies can have its advantages such as being expedient, require a small sample size, and are inexpensive. These studies are used to examine rare diseases and situations that involve people that have had many exposures. This design study can also have ts disadvantages such as they cannot measure incidence. They can only examine one disease and not many and it does not do well measuring rare exposures. Due to retrospect design bias is ususally possible (Schmidt, N., & Brown, J., 2019).

The healthy people of 2020 objectives use the epidemiologic method by getting statistics and facts on the certain problem. For example heart disease and stroke is one of the biggest concerns in the U.S. Heart disease is the leading cause of death in the United States, and stroke is the fifth leading cause. Healthy People 2030 focuses on preventing and treating heart disease and stroke and improving overall cardiovascular health (Health, 2019). The primary goal is to improve cardiovascular health and reduce deaths from heart disease and stroke. The design type that is being used to analytically research these facts is by technology. They are able to access records gathering more information making their statistics more accurate which is an advantage. Electronic health record-based approaches enable more nimble and near real-time epidemiologic investigations in larger populations, and EHR data optimally lend themselves to secondary analyses (Mayo,2019).
