Among the many business and technical processes that are “broken” or require significant rework at Denn’s Fish House are:
- a single point-of-failure in the ordering process,
- substantial “management by email” among all processes
- transactional complexity
- informal pricing procedures
- information silos between managers and owners
- organizational boundaries
- unenforced franchise rules
- lack of clear job descriptions
- …and more…
Regardless of which Systems Development Project your team ultimately selects, defines (sets the scope) and pursues, your team knows that a Relational Database Management System will be necessary. Data are the key to the business processes and are currently “trapped” in the e-mail systems or other flat file formats that are not easily shared, audited, or analyzed.
Clearly, these data need to be able to be shared among applications if (1) customers even ever to have self-service features to track or update their own orders online, or (2) to generate analytical reports to identify profitable (or problematic) customers. The latter option would be useful to offer sales promotions during slow seasons.Whether or not Denn’s ultimately builds or acquires a system, the data model needs to be clear and complete.

Your tasks are to (1) design an Entity-Relationship Diagram for the Denn’s catering system, and (2) further specify each Table Name, Data Field, Properties, Constraints, and Comments for every table and field.
