What I mean by this is that at some point in people’s lives, we run across something new or unfamiliar to us which in turn can make us have questions why do people eat certain foods, or talk a certain way? Why is someone very introverted? This are all things that can stem from cultural backgrounds. Someone culture may be that always voicing your opinion can be a form of disrespect to a boss or superior. But by taking the time to understand the different diverse co-workers in a work environment may give you insight on an individual. So, a positive is being more openminded which can lead to fresh and new ideas from employees.
What are the possible negative consequences for an organization that does not embrace diversity? – A possible negative consequence for an organization that does not embrace diversity can lead to a stem of many issues, from complaints, losing employees, productiveness and positive working environments suffering. This is why most companies have place that enforce equal opportunity employment to make sure issues are handled correctly and quickly if a person feels that they are no excelling because of a lack thereof diversity. This can affect the whole mission as a whole if a department isn’t doing so well.
What strategies can managers implement to enhance cultural awareness and overcome preconceived biases or stereotypes? – Some strategies a manager can implement is diversity days as team building activities. This will allow for employees to give their background or culture and help rid of preconceived biases themselves. Also, by managers enforcing a zero tolerance for stereo types and biases and leading by example as the manager.
