Guidelines for PPT Presentation (20 slides)
The topic is Cultural capital
Your presentation should consist of the following:
- Thesis statement
- Representation of this educational phenomenon in
- Political discourse/public opinion (i.e. news reports)
- Pop culture (i.e. films, music, comics)
- Social media (i.e. Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, blogs etc.)
- Sociological analysis/discussion following each of the above sources (based on academic research findings)
- Your personal response on this issue
- References of all the sources used
Note the following:
A. Thesis
- Your thesis statement needs to show how this educational phenomenon is related to educational inequalities.
- Make sure you narrow down your focus so you can be more specific and organized in your argumentation (i.e. Race and the Discipline Gap, or Gender and School Curriculum, or Ethnicity and College Climate).
B. AcademicSources
- Your research for academic sources should focus on sociological/educational
- Identify three articles/book chapters that will be useful in your theorization (no more than one from class readings) and use these sources to construct your thesis argument and provide a sociological discussion for each visual material that you will be using.

As you examine how this educational phenomenon is represented/discussed/explored outside of academia look into the following sources and include at least one piece from each information source (a-d) below:
- Public discourse (newspaper articles, news channels reports, podcast/radio discussions).

- Social media (Facebook posts/news feed, Twitter comments, blogs etc.)
- Representations of the issue in numerical or graphic form (tables, graphs, maps.
- After you present each of these sources you will need to provide a sociological analysis based on academic research findings on this issue (make sure you cite the source you use in your analysis/slide).
