For this assignment, you will…

  1. A Process Model is a graphical way of representing how a business system should operate.
  2. Although the name Data Flow Diagram (DFD) implies a focus on data, it is really a focus on the processes or activities that are performed.
  3. There are four (4) symbols in the DFD language a) processes, b) data flows, c) data stores, and d) external entities.
  4. Read what is included in the Elements of Data Flow Diagrams (DFD) on page 187.
  5. See Figure 5-2 “Data Flow Diagram Elements” to see the symbols.
  6. Once you have understood the requirements for the project, create your Process Model using the format shown in Figure 5-1. You must use boxes, lines, arrows and shapes as shown in the sample Process Model.
  7. The DFDs are created from the Use Case(s) that you completed last week.
  8. Build upon your Systems Analysis Project Topic from the LIST provided in the course. TOPIC: COLLEFE ADMISSIONS SYSTEMS
  9. Your responses must be typed directly into the Systems Analysis Project TEMPLATE under the appropriate section heading. Failure to use the TEMPLATE will result in an Automatic Grade on 0 on each assignment submitted.

For this assignment, you will…

  1. A Data Model is a formal way of representing the data the are used and created by a business system; it illustrates people, places, or things about what information is captured and how they are related to each other.
  2. An Entity Relationship Diagram (ERD) is a picture that shows the information that is created, stored, and used by a business system.
  3. There are three (3) basic elements in the Data Modeling language a) entities, b) attributes and c) relationships.
  4. Read what is included in the Elements of an Entity Relationship Diagram (ERD) on page 226.
  5. See Figure 6-2 “Data Modeling Symbol Sets” to see the symbols.
  6. Once you have understood the requirements for the project, create your Data Model using the format shown in Figure 6-14. You must use boxes, lines, arrows and shapes as shown in the sample ERD.
  7. Remember, the ERD is the most common technique for drawing a Data Model, which is a formal way of representing the data that are used and created by a business system.
  8. Build upon your Systems Analysis Project Topic from the LIST provided in the course. You will build upon this project for the entire semester. A max of 3 students may choose the SAME topic on a first-come, first-serve basis.
