Introduction
Mississippi CHIP provides coverage for uninsured children up to age 19 whose family does not exceed 209% of the federal poverty level. Families may earn up to 209%. It is a free low-cost private health plan for children meeting family size/income requirements.

Please briefly introduce the State Children’s Health Insurance Program (SCHIP) of your state of residence.
California’s Children’s Health Insurance Program (CCHIP) is the children program in the state of California. It is regulated by the state and federal to provide low-income children with health care insurance. The program was established through the Balanced Budget Act of 1997. Main purpose was to expand coverage to the uninsured children.
What kind of services are covered?
Services that are covered by the CHIP are:
Routine Check-ups, Immunizations, doctor visits, prescriptions, dental/vision care, inpatient/outpatient hospital care, laboratory, x-ray, and emergency services.
What are the eligibility?
To be eligible, children up to age 19 with low income of $49,200 per year (family of 4).
How does SCHIP differ from your state’s Medicaid?
SCHIP is similar to Medi-cal in California, but it is more targets the uninsured low-income children and pregnant women with income that are too high to be qualified for Medi-cal but low to purchase private insurance (DHCS).

In New Jersey, the SCHIP program is called New Jersey Family Care, which is also federal and state to assists NJ residents of any age group to have access to affordable insurance (NJ FamilyCare). The eligibility for children under the age of 18 is the income up to 355% FPL, and renewal each year. The similarity with California CHIP is the services provided for the children and how the program is funded through the government.
The other state is Utah’s CHIP, which gives coverage for uninsured children and teen. The eligibility requirement is that the child must be under 19 year of age, no health coverage, and is a US citizen or legal residents. The Again, the similarities are the covered services provided in this program. Also, it is funded by the state and federal governments.
