According to CNBC (2014), globalization is creating more opportunities for thieves to get their hands on intellectual property. Intellectual property theft has been on the rise during the last 25 years (locklizard, n.d.). A report published in 2013, showed that intellectual property theft cost the United States approximately $300 billion a year (Voice of America, 2013) . In the same report, the World Health Organization warned that more than half of the drugs sold today are counterfeits. Additionally, sales of CD’s and DVD’s have dropped 70% in the last ten years because of counterfeits, and software piracy cost owners millions of dollars every year. The situation is getting worst.
